Diseases/Research Topics
Angiogenesis, Cancer, Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound, Imaging, Molecular Imaging, Ultrasound

Dr. Kono's main research has been contrast enhanced ultrasound imaging, particularly in tumor diagnosis and assessment of tumor response to treatment.

Contrast ultrasound is a new imaging modality that allows us not only to diagnose tumors but also to quantitate tumor blood flow and fractional blood volume, which is potentially useful to monitor therapeutic response at bedside. Working with Drs. Robert Mattrey and David Vera on molecular imaging, Dr. Kono is currently in charge of ultrasound imaging provided by the 'In vivo Imaging' shared resource.

Clinically, she is a hepatologist and currently works at Liver Center at UCSD, in charge of liver cancer clinic and weekly multidisciplinary liver cancer group meeting. Dr. Kono is interested in improving liver cancer screening program, as well as management of primary hepatocellular carcinoma.
