About the partnership

San Diego State University (SDSU) and the Moores Cancer Center at University of California, San Diego (UCSD-CC) share a longstanding collaborative history that elevates research, joint graduate programs, and outreach programs specifically targeting and enhancing the well-being of diverse communities.

Located in one of the most ethnically diverse regions of the country, the Partnership designs projects and programs that focus on a broad array of traditionally underserved communities. Its recent planning process has built the critical infrastructure necessary to implement strong, successful programs to address cancer disparities in ways that were not previously possible.

Partnership goals and objectives

  • Enhance cancer research and research training at SDSU
  • Increase the effectiveness of UCSD-CC in research, research training and career development related to minorities
  • Advance the body of knowledge in cancer research relevant to underserved ethnic communities
  • Educate and train promising minority scientists in cancer research
  • Increase the number of faculty, scientists, and students engaged in culturally relevant cancer research and community outreach and education
  • Expand community education and outreach programs and integrate these programs into the research
