Interactions with Mentor Interpreters

Each quarter the students are paired with a new ASL mentor interpreter. ASL Fellows engage in 10 hours of mentorship activities during their eight-week elective curriculum. They discuss:

  • Deaf culture
  • Ethical issues that can occur between their Deaf patients and doctors
  • Interpreters’ roles, strengths, and limitations
  • The difference between ASL and English
