Deaf Culture Training Program

The ASL fellows learn first-hand about Deaf Culture through:

1. Deaf Patient Simulations
2. Enrolling in an American Sign Language Course
3. Spending a month at Gallaudet University, the only liberal-arts college for the Deaf
4. Participating in Deaf Events
5. Co-leading an ASL Club for pre-health professional undergraduates
6. Creating a health education program for, or related to, the Deaf community

Eligibility

• Must be an incoming first year UCSD medical student (Second year students may take this 3 quarter elective on a space available basis)
• Have strong linguistic skills
• Have demonstrated a commitment to community service among disadvantaged or medically underserved communities
• Are highly motivated to improve the Deaf community’s access to health information and health care
  Strong ability to interact with people across cultures

How to Apply

Upon acceptance to UCSD, you will be mailed a brochure. Complete the brochure submit it to the address below OR contact Dr. Sadler directly with your intrest.
