The UCSD’s Cancer Center’s mission is to reduce the cancer morbidity and mortality with a special focus on the medically underserved. The center’s outreach program has been working closely with the Deaf community, a highly underserved group.

The Deaf Culture Training and Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program for first and second-year medical students enrolled at University of California San Diego (UCSD) will become skilled in:

1. American Sign Language (ASL) in the context of the medical setting

  1. Deaf culture
  2. Cancer prevention with a focus on early detection, prompt intervention, and clinical trials.
