This decision will be based on your risks for getting prostate cancer, your general health, and your feelings about the benefits and risks of prostate cancer treatments. If I decide to get screened for prostate cancer, when should I begin? Men who are age 50 or over should be screened for prostate cancer. If you are an African-American man or have a family member with prostate cancer, you should start getting screened between ages 40-45. If you decide to screen for prostate cancer, you should get a Rectal Examination and a PSA blood test once every year. It is important to remember that it is your personal choice whether to undergo screening for prostate cancer. You and your doctor can determine what is best for you. |
