Disciplinary Specialty of Research: Cancer Drug Development

Description

A postdoctoral position is available to assist in the development of a novel drug delivery system capable of directing cancer therapeutics selectively to tumors. The approach involves the investigation of modified polyglutamic acid polymers and nanoporous silicon particles. A key component of the research effort is directed at identifying novel ligands that bind to tumor cells using phage and bacterial display technology, and assessing their ability to direct polymers and particles to tumors in animal models. This includes assessment of the efficacy of the drug delivery system in various murine tumor models, determination of the pharmacokinetic parameters of the delivered drug in plasma and tumor, the distribution in normal tissues and assessment of the toxicology of the drug delivery system. This work is funded by a 4 year UC Discovery grant that started Feb 1, 2007.
