Welcome from Director Scott Lippman

Thomas Kipps, MD, PhDThe UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center in San Diego County, a status that acknowledges our exceptional efforts and achievements in three areas: patient care, basic research, and prevention. We are also very proud to be recognized as one of the nation's top cancer programs in U.S. News & World Report's 2011-2012 "Best Hospitals" survey. While our scientists and clinicians focus on developing the next generation of cancer therapies and cures -- no small task -- we continue to redefine translational medicine, bringing laboratory findings about the fundamental nature of cancer development and behavior closer to our patients’ bedsides.

At the same time, while our basic research is world renowned, and our range of clinical services impressive, we never lose sight of the human side of medicine. Our Patient and Family Support Services program, for example, offers mind / body wellness workshops, along with yoga, meditation, and other stress reduction programs, to groups of cancer patients, families, and caregivers on a weekly basis to help cope with the emotional and mental aspects of cancer.

We’re extremely proud of these kinds of efforts that help to define the word “comprehensive” in comprehensive cancer center, and which we hope will continue to earn your trust now and in the future.
