Responses to Extracellular Stimuli and Stress, Stress

Our lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of signal propagation and signal termination in the PI3 kinase and diacylglycerol signaling pathways. We focus on how protein kinase C and Akt (protein kinase B) are 1] activated by phosphorylation and second messengers, and 2] inactivated by dephosphorylation catalyzed by the new phosphatase PH domain Leucine rich repeat Protein Phosphatase, PHLPP (pronounced 'flip'). Understanding the molecular mechanisms of these processes is of particular relevance to disease where many of these proteins become deregulated.
