Dr. Ayyagari's main research interest is hereditary retinal conditions. Two genes they have described for hereditary retinal conditions have been observed to play a role in pancreatic cancer.
She is studying the biological role of these genes in normal and transformed cells. The overall goal of her research is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying retinal conditions. The Ayyagari laboratory also provides molecular diagnosis for hereditary ophthalmic conditions.
