Diseases/Research Topics
Lung Cancer, Screening

Dr. Goodman is the site Principal Investigator of the National Lung Screening Trial, a multicenter clinical trial investigating if screening people with either chest x-ray or CT scan before they have symptoms can reduce deaths from lung cancer. The earlier stage at diagnosis will hopefully lead to a decrease in overall mortality from lung cancer, given our knowledge of increased survival from Stage I cancers compared to higher stage cancers. The study will be conducted over nine years with imaging exams being performed only during the first three years. The final six years will consist of biannual surveys about quality of life and medical history.
