Factors |
Smoking
is the greatest risk factor for bladder cancer, with smokers experiencing
twice the risk of nonsmokers. Smoking is estimated to be responsible
for about 47% of bladder cancer deaths among men and 37% among women.
People living in urban areas and workers in dye, rubber, or leather
industries also have a higher risk. |
| Early
Detection |
Bladder
cancer is diagnosed by examination of cells in the urine and examination
of the bladder wall with a cystoscope, a slender tube fitted with
a lens and light that can be inserted into the tract through the
urethra. |
