What is Needed to Use the Internet from Home?

To use the Internet, you need:

Web Browser Software  Popular Web browsers include Netscape "Navigator" or "Communicator, Internet Explorer from Microsoft, and America OnLine’s browser.

Internet Service Provider Next, you need an Internet service provider (ISP). Just as a phone needs a phone company to function, a computer needs an Internet service provider. America OnLine (AOL,) CompuServe, and Prodigy are online services that include Internet access and other functions. A direct ISP provides only Internet access at competitive prices and can offer faster connections. Costs range from $5.00 per month for limited use to an average of $15-20 per month for unlimited use. Cable modem costs run approximately $45-50 per month.
