Treatment at UC San Diego
UC San Diego is the only cancer facility in San Diego designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. In fact, only 45 centers nationwide have earned this distinction. Our gynecologic oncologists provide care for women with cancer of the reproductive tract and conduct research to improve diagnosis methods and treatments.
We are San Diego's only medical institution affiliated with the Gynecologic Oncology Group, a nonprofit international organization supported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes for Health (NIH). This means we can offer NIH-supported clinical trials of new therapies not available elsewhere in San Diego. Our patients also have access to innovative industry-sponsored trials. For some patients, minimally invasive and robotic surgery may be an option. We also offer intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the new NCI standard of care for some ovarian cancers.
