As
Center Director, Carson has complete authority over all issues relating
to administrative, planning, personnel, major purchasing, space allocation,
and operational aspects of the Cancer Center, which provides resources
and opportunities to 270+ faculty members. He also has authority over
the following Cancer Center matters (both externally and internally):

Selection
of Associate Directors, Program and Shared Resource Leaders |

58,000 ASF) over which he has direct control |

Discretionary
use of Development, and Planning and Evaluation funds based upon

Cancer Center Support Grant rebudgeting authority under currently
approved guidelines |
Carson assists his senior leadership team achieve their goals and the
overall goals of the Center, and ensures that research conducted under
the Center’s umbrella continues to be of high scientific merit and focused
upon the cancer problem. Through a variety of mechanisms, he creates
and encourages opportunities for basic and clinical research collaborations.
Additionally, the Director also has joint control with appropriate Departmental
Chairpersons of 19 Cancer Center-related tenured Faculty positions.
