Saks Fifth Avenue Teams with UCSD To
help raise awareness and dollars for all women’s cancers,
the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Fashion Valley has partnered
with the Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center to
host “Key to the Cure,” a 4-day shopping event taking
place October 14 to 17. During those days, a percentage
of all sales will go to support research into breast cancer
and women’s reproductive cancers. To
kick off the shopping weekend, from 6 to 9 p.m. on October
13, the Fashion Valley Saks store will host a party with
restaurant tastings and cocktails, and fun men’s fashion
event called “Men About Town.” Tickets are $25 per person. Men
About Town is a slightly irreverent fashion show that
features nearly 30 prominent San Diego men dressed in
Saks apparel. Now in its second year, the fashion show
is co-chaired by Katherine Kennedy and Robert Horsman. “It’s
great fun to see these business and community leaders
and celebrities looking fabulous and strutting down the
runway,” said Kennedy. “The crowd really gets into it,
cheering the models and some even throwing money onto
the stage! Everyone has fun while supporting an important
cause.” The
partnership between Saks and the Cancer Center during
the past five years has raised more than $500,000 through
sales and sponsorships. This year’s kickoff party and
fashion show are partially underwritten by Mercedes-Benz
of San Diego. At
the national level, Mercedes-Benz USA has designed an
all-new SLK350 Launch Edition roadster to raise funds
for the Key to the Cure program. One of these cars will
be on display in the Fashion Valley Saks store during
the local events. Other
national sponsors are the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s
Women’s Cancer Research Fund, and Hanes, which has underwritten
this year’s Key to the Cure t-shirt, enabling 100 percent
of its $35 retail price to go directly to Key to the Cure.
The t-shirt was designed by Marc Jacobs exclusively to
benefit this initiative. For
further information about the kickoff party and fashion
show or the 4-day shopping event, please call the UCSD
Cancer Center Foundation office, 858-822-0023. Saks
Fifth Avenue is part of Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises,
which includes 62 Saks Fifth Avenue stories nationwide,
51 OFF 5th Outlet Stores and saks.com.
