Cancer Center Leader to Chair
ACS Statewide Wellness Team

The California Division of the American Cancer Society appointed Georgia Robins Sadler, Ph.D., as chair of its Wellness Team. As chair, Sadler will lead the team that provides strategic oversight and recommends policies and procedures for cancer prevention and risk reduction activities.

In addition to her membership on the California Division board of directors, Sadler is also involved with the local Border Sierra region chapter where she has served in such roles as the recent vice president for Cancer Control in San Diego.

Sadler is Associate Director for Outreach at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center, and clinical professor of surgery at the UCSD School of Medicine.  She is the principal investigator on a 10-year study to find ways to make it easier for oncology physicians to refer patients to promising new clinical trials, and is also principal investigator on a randomized supportive care clinical trial for couples coping with prostate cancer. 

She directs a variety of cancer awareness programs, such as the Pacific-Asian Grocery Store Cancer Education program, the Black Cosmetologists' Promoting Health program and the Deaf Community Cancer Education program. These programs focus on reducing the disproportionately high mortality rates for cancer within those communities. Sadler is also the lead scientist evaluating a fellowship program to train physicians who are culturally and linguistically competent to champion the needs of the Deaf community.

Sadler holds a B.S. in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from Wharton Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania. She did her post graduate Thouron British-American Exchange fellowship at Bedford College, University of London, and earned her Ph.D. at the Union Institute in Ohio.
